According to a new study published in the journal Optics Express, a higher color temperature around 6500K, or bright daylight, caused participating students to perform better academically, while a warm white color temperature of 3500K encouraged “recess activities.”
Students whose classrooms used the daylight bulbs were more alert, focused and performed better on tests and assignments compared to the students who worked under the warm white bulbs. It’s safe to say that you should try to utilize either natural daylight or daylight bulbs that mimic the bright white light of midday in your own office or study area in order to stay focused during your workday or study time.
Though warm daylight bulbs are popular in many settings, and are found around the home in many different applications, this study suggests that they are better suited for use in areas meant for relaxation and leisure, like the living room, bedroom or bathroom. The warm color temperature of this type of bulb naturally preps your body for relaxation and sleep, while brighter, bluer daylight bulbs keep your brain alert and your mind firing on all cylinders.
