    This bulb was purchased to replace a 250 watts hps. I am using it on the 120 watt setting and am pleased with the light it broadcasts and the color of the light.I did have an electrician bypass the ballast and starter in the light fixture.

LED HID Replacements

HIDs are High Intensity Discharge lamps. They come in 4 types (listed by commonality):

  • Metal Halide

  • High Pressure Sodium

  • Mercury Vapor

  • Low Pressure Sodium

LEDs have been very successful in replacing HIDs in every application, including: wall packs, high bays, flood lights and track lighting. LEDs also offer better optics with a more focused beam spread and are dimmable. Plus, they last longer (50K hours vs 12-24K hours). Finally, many HIDs needed time to warm up before they produced their full brightness, whereas LEDs are instantly at their full brightness. HIDs have a fast lumen depreciation rate (they lose almost 30% of the initial lumen output within a year or so) whereas LEDs remain (almost entirely) constant their entire life.
