Christmas Wreaths Customer Reviews

  1. Vickerman 42" Artificial Bangor Mixed Pine

    Georgetown, TX
The 42" Bangor Mixed Pine wreath is a beautiful color and a nice variety of pine tips. I purchased four of these for my church sanctuary. For visual impact in a large space, I plan to place two next to each other on both sides of the sanctuary. ( We won't know until next Christmas if the plan works! )

Why Do People Hang Christmas Wreaths?

Christmas wreaths started about the same time as people began decorating their homes with Christmas trees - 16th century Europe, especially Germany. The tree was often pruned into a triangular shape to fit the space, so people took what they had cut from the tree and wove it into wreaths. At this early stage of the wreath, the evergreen material and circular shape was used as a religious symbol of eternal life.

Wreaths have also been used as a Winter Solstice (or Midwinter) decoration in a 12-day festival. These wreaths had the same appearance as Christmas wreaths, but used candles as well. For this celebration, the wreath itself symbolized nature and springtime, while candles represented the hope that sunlight would return.

How to Decorate a Christmas Wreath

There are many ways to decorate a Christmas wreath, but the most convenient is to order a pre-decorated wreath. Choose from a wide variety of lit or unlit wreaths with pine cones, berries, ornaments, and more. If you want a lot of ornaments, an ornament wreath could be right for your style.

For a Christmas wreath that really brightens your Christmas decorations, use a colored wreath. Or switch it up with a wreath that is a non-traditional shape.

How to Hang Christmas Wreaths

There are many ways to hang Christmas wreaths. If you don’t mind leaving a small mark on your wall or door, many people hang their wreath from a hook and nail. An over the door hook or adhesive hooks are another convenient option for door wreaths as they stay firmly in place but can easily be removed when you want to take the wreath down.

For a more decorative option of hanging your wreath, you can use ribbon. Follow this tutorial for a DIY display.

The most popular places to hang a Christmas wreath are the front door and over the fireplace mantle. Wreaths can be displayed just about anywhere, so don’t be afraid to get creative! Make a corner cozy with a wreath, or hang it over a mirror or window for a stunning effect.

Whether you place them indoors or outdoors, wreaths add a touch of green warmth to the season.

How to Choose the Right Size Wreath

It is important to know what size wreath will look good where you plan to display it.

Wreaths on doors should take up about 2/3 of the top half of the door. For the standard exterior door size of 36 inches, a 24 inch wreath would look best.

Keeping the 2/3 rule of doors in mind for other display areas is helpful; however, it is important to consider how you want the wreath to be used. If you want people’s eyes drawn to your wreath, consider a wreath that would take up a bit more than 2/3 of the space you plan to display it in.
