GE fluorescent bulb has been burning since 1974 - and it STILL works.
In the lighting industry, I expect top name brands to produce very high-end light bulbs that have a very long life. I do NOT expect 40+ years of life! A customer just reached out to us to share his story of a light bulb above his kitchen sink that has been fully functional since 1974!
This 73 year old homeowner indicated that he hired an electrician to open the fixture and replace one of the burned out bulbs. He confirmed that the one still lit has been working just fine for 41 years. Imagine his surprise! Many fluorescent bulbs that are produced today can carry a 20,000 or 40,000 hour life, but at a rate of 8 hours per day, this fluorescent bulb may have seen around 120,000 hours! I'd say he got his money's worth. :)
While this is somewhat of a rare find, it is not unheard of. We also have a story of an incandescent bulb that has been burning for over 120 years.
