With the world transitioning from incandescent bulbs to LEDs, some may be wondering if there is a difference between them. Both have their advantages but are distinct from each other in unique ways.
LED stands for “light emitting diodes.” Although LEDs don’t last forever… they usually don’t have to be replaced for about 10-20 years. These light bulbs are very efficient and can be applied to many different aspects of lighting. LEDs emit light from a selection of colors to produce white or warm color temperature. Besides the fact that they consume far less energy than incandescent bulbs, there are many benefits that come with using LEDs such as the following:
LED light bulbs can be used for residential, industrial and commercial purposes. They are commonly used for street lights, task lighting, recessed lighting, walkways, garage lighting, and much more. LEDs are brighter than incandescent bulbs with the same wattage and because they emit minimal heat, they require less power to light up. Similarly, they manage glare and reduce direct light which is why they are perfect for industrial means.
Incandescent bulbs have been available for awhile - far before LEDs were introduced to the world. At face value, these light bulbs appear to be the more inexpensive option, however, they do need to be replaced more often than LEDs would; which, in time, actually makes LEDs the more affordable option.
An incandescent light bulb is illuminated by a burning tungsten filament. Electricity is shot through the filament at a temperature so high that it becomes illuminated.
There are many commercial and household purposes for Incandescent bulbs. They are mainly used for lamps, headlamps, flashlights, advertisement signs, accent lighting, and more.
Unfortunately, incandescent bulbs will no longer be available to purchase after March 1st, 2023. Lighting technology will always be looking to improve. Therefore, because these incandescent bulbs are not energy efficient and need to be replaced often, LEDs will be the primary purchase in the future.
It’s important to understand the differences of LEDS and incandescent bulbs to know what you’re purchasing, the benefits that come with it, and to make smart purchases for the best lighting in your home. Although incandescent bulbs are more affordable, LEDs might also be worth your money in the long run!
