Many modern homes now have a media room; the place where the TV and its accompanying electronics rest, waiting to be called upon to provide entertainment. Sometimes a media room will include a computer setup. When all these things combined are turned on they can provide enough light to allow a person to move around, but as they are not always on, one would do well to use light bulbs as well.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs fit the bill here very well. Their energy efficiency means you won't be adding much at all to the energy drain of a media room. You can choose from a range of color temperatures to precisely suit the ambient light of the electronics and obtain pleasant lighting synergy. Lower (warmer) color temperatures would probably synergize best with most movie and game lighting.
To supplement the low energy usage of compact fluorescents, media rooms need fewer light fixtures/sockets than other rooms of the house. Lighting your media room will take less energy than booting up your computer! Additionally you can get dimmable compact fluorescent light bulbs, to customize your media room lighting as you see fit. Customizing the light from your light bulbs through dimming is an excellent way to get the perfect balance between entertainment system light output and ambient light.
If you currently use incandescent light bulbs in your media room, try compact fluorescents. If you have a dimmer switch, make sure you specifically get dimmable compact fluorescent light bulbs, as standard compact fluorescents are not inherently dimmable. You won't be disappointed; on the contrary, you will be quite pleased with the energy savings and excellent light quality!
