Dimmer worked great for my application. I used it on a lamp with a quartz light.

This floor lamp dimmer works well and I like that it housing is made of metal instead of cardboard that the old one had. I had to file down the circular switch's head beneath the plastic cover some to make it fit inside my floor lamp's vertical tube, but everything works well now and this small modification my not be relevant to your lamp.

This was exactly the product I was looking for to revive my halogen floor lamp -- the old switch was fried. The new one was very easy to install -- the instructions on the package were more exact than I could have hoped, and the switch fit perfectly.
