I've always had this type of bulb on my Christmas tree but lately have been worried that they could cause a fire. These bulbs are cool to the touch and give off just as much light as the incandescent variety. They also have an added feature. There is a lens in the top of the bulb that shines up onto the ceiling. It gives the room a rainbow effect - very pleasing. And they use about a tenth the power... What's not to like.
