These are type b bulbs. In other words, the ballast must be removed and the fixture rewired. They work very well so far and the dimming function is great.
One caveat, the regular LED dimming switches that you could buy at home Depot don't work properly.
I contacted Phillips and was given a list of dimmers at work. This was successful for me. Although the dimmers are 70ish dollars. They do work well.
