This type bulb was recommended by a GE Dealer as a replacement for the T8 bulb originally shipped with the unit, for use in their Space Saver microwave, to illuminate the cook top surface on the counter top below. Unfortunately the life span of this type bulb was very limited. However, I did find a bulb which matched the original type T8bulbs which GE shipped in the unit when new. It is an intermediate base, T8 bulb, clear. Two manufacturers were found; Philips BC40T8N and Satco S3917. Both are 40 watt clear T8 bulbs. I have the Philips, and they have been working great for a little over three weeks. A close examination with a magnifying glass reveals that both the Philips and the Satco bulbs, were made in the very same machine. The brass base on both, have identical machine made markings. All three of the mentioned type bulbs, were made in China; yet only two work well in this unit.
