What Are EVs?
Electric Vehicles are the logical next step in the evolution of personal vehicular transportation. Electric vehicles are smooth, luxurious and – above all else – energy efficient.
At its base, the electric vehicle replaces the need for gas with fully rechargeable battery-sourced electric power. This cuts down on the emissions of damaging fossil fuels into the atmosphere.
What Kinds of EVs Are There?
There are three major types of Electric Vehicles. These are:
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV)
With absolutely no carbon emissions into the air, BEVs are the most energy efficient means of EV transportation. They operate solely off of a rechargeable battery. Generally, when anyone talks about EVs, they’re presumably talking about BEVs, as they are the highest, most energy efficient grade of EV.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)
HEVs utilize both the efficiency of rechargeable batteries as well as the availability of fossil fuels like gasoline. These combine the best of both worlds by creating a vehicle that strives for more energy efficiency by fully embracing the world of EV while simultaneously ensuring not to alienate itself by eliminating the usage of gasoline completely.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)
PHEVs operate using a fully gas-powered engine with an electric motor working primarily to assist the traditional engine. The method leans on the help of electricity while still fully maintaining a traditional gasoline powered engine.
How Long Can a Fully Charged EV Last For?
The average distance an EV lasts for on a fully charged battery is about 250 miles. At this point, there are over 150,000 charging stations across the US alone – so stopping to charge while out on the road is quite reasonable expectation to have.
How Long Does it Take to Charge an EV?
Charging stations come in three different levels, indicating different power thresholds and capabilities. The higher the number, the stronger the charger.
Level 1 EV Chargers
The first level of EV Chargers consists of primarily residentially focused chargers, generally operating on a standard/universal voltage (120V). Generally speaking, these chargers will take about 60 hours to charge a BEV fully from being empty.
Level 2 EV Chargers
Level 2 chargers will take anywhere from 5-10 hours to fully charge a BEV and operate at a higher voltage, clocking in at 240V.
Level 3 EV Chargers
As previously mentioned, the higher the level, the more powerful the charging. Level 3 chargers are generally used for commercial applications because of their intense load and expensive initiation. Operating at just about anywhere above 400V, these can charge a standard BEV in under an hour.
What Are the Different Brands of EV Chargers?
There are a number of different brands jumping on the bandwagon of EV. The primary brands we carry are as follows:
Chargepoint
Chargepoint is one of the leading pioneers in the EV business. Established in 2007 by a group of esteemed entrepreneurs, they’ve spread their line of EV products throughout the world. In total, Chargepoint has almost 200,000,000 charges to their name, accumulated from decade and a half. They also offer 24/7 customer support within their cloud of provision.
Wallbox
Wallbox is another pioneer in the world of EV – with services available in over 80 countries. Founded in Barcelona in 2015, they continue to expand their lines of successful residential EV Chargers, continually evolving while maintaining the core values upon which their business was founded.
Enel X
Established in 2017, Enel X was quick to join the other titans of the EV movement, specializing in their signature residentially focused Juicebox. Based in Italy, they continue to strive for a cleaner environment.
Flo
Founded in 2009, Flo boasts an astonishing 90,000+ charging stations located throughout all of North America – with a firm presence spanning Canada.
Ledvance
As one of the primary lighting manufacturers in the world, Ledvance/Sylvania has established their importance in the world of home improvement and energy conservation. Our relationship with them spans decades, and we’re excited to announce their recent contributions to the EV game. Their current EV offering focuses mostly on commercial applications.
