In 1942, Gunnar Johansson formed Gnosjö Konstsmide as a manufacturing company for flower boxes. In the years that followed, the company breached their way into outdoor lighting production, and by the 1960s, Gunnar’s son Rolf took over as CEO.
The 1980s saw much growth for Konstsmide as they produced what’s known as the world’s first low-current transformer-based lighting chain, modernizing the outdoor lighting industry and setting a new standard for safety and quality. The decade also saw the company establishing various subsidiaries all throughout Europe and Asia.
By the 1990s, Konstsmide utilized a moulding plant in Hungary, where to this day they focus on creating high quality products by hand. 1995 saw Konstsmide's release of the world’s first LED lighting chains.
In the 2000s, the company was handed off to Rolf’s sons Janne, Jonas and Daniel Johansson. Through the following decades and to this day, Gnosjö Konstsmide continues to grow, furthering their reputation as a reliable, energy efficient and ever-expanding staple of the modern lighting world.
