This wire either brings line voltage into the wallbox or delivers voltage to your lights. Traveler wires go between 2 wallboxes and typically "travel" together in the wall. If the common and traveler wire are switched on the control one side will only turn on if the other is in the on position.
ApplicationsCan be used in a 4-way application, In this type of application 3 switches control the lights (2 of those switches are 3-ways middle switch is a 4-way), Dimmer will need to be installed in one of the two 3-way locations and you'll need to keep switches in the other 3-way and in the 4-way location
