In this type of application, 3 switches control the lights (2 of those switches are 3-ways, middle switch is a 4-way)
Dimmer will need to be installed in one of the two 3-way locations, and you'll need to keep switches in the other 3-way and in the 4-way location
Features
On / off switch
Slide dimmer
Only 1 dimmer can be used in a 3-way application
Only works with incandescent and halogen bulbs
Troubleshooting
Problem: 3-way model works in reverse when used in a single pole application
Do you have wires on a copper and a brass-colored screw? If so, remove the wire from the brass-colored screw and tie it into the other brass-colored screw on the opposite side of the dimmer
Check the switch has not been installed upside down
Problem: Lights flicker or do not turn off
If dimmer is being used in a 3-way application, make sure only one dimmer is on the circuit. A mechanical on/off switch will need to be used in the other location.
Check the bulbs in use are either incandescent or halogen
Problem: One location will not turn on if the other location is turned off
The common and traveler wires are switched at one of the locations. Consult the installation guide and wiring diagram for wiring guidelines in a 3-way setup. The common wire will be identified as the "tagged" wire. This wire either brings line voltage into the wallbox, or delivers voltage to your lights. Traveler wires go between 2 wallboxes and typically "travel" together in the wall. If the common and traveler wire are switched on the control, one side will only turn on if the other is in the on position.
